College Degree more expensive, worth less in job market
I thought that this reading was very interesting to me because this is something that I was thinking about myself and also if my career choice is even going to be worth getting a degree in. This article talked about that going to college and getting a bachelors degree used to be something rare but now almost everyone goes to college and so it's not as valuable anymore. It also says that getting a bachelors degree is essential but getting a high degree or doing something more to stand out is really what students should be thinking about. What you do while getting your degree is more important, they said that jobs are looking more for people that have job experience like you could get with an internship or volunteer work. I think this really makes me worry now about getting a job once I get out of school even though I already had planned on going to get my Masters degree it still worries me.
Should People Skip college?
This basically states that even though someone went to college and got a degree in what they have a job for that doesn't mean it actually provided more knowledge to do the job, it just means that the employer hired them because the degree looked better. The article says that people with degrees will make more money but not because they do a better job but because they have a degree so technically having a degree and going to college will be a benefit but does all the schooling really help you in skills for work. I think that this could be true but I also disagree because it all depends on the company. Every company thinks differently and how do you know that the degree you got and the knowledge you received doesn't help you at your job. I think that this is also another way of saying that we should still all get degrees because it might help with getting a job but it might not necessarily help with the skills of the job.
Plan B: Skip College
This article was based on getting more into the hand on apprenticeship or internship parts because that's what more job are looking for because people that come out with just a degree and no experience suffers in the workplace. I believe this is true, I think that everyone should if not intern but at least observe in their workplace so they know how things work and how the real life situations really are. This article also spoke to the fact that jobs like nurse assistant will be a more use full job to the upcoming years and you don't even have to go to school for it. I think that all three of these articles are definitely something to take into consideration and mainly if you're going to get a bachelors degree you need to find a way to stand out by either going into higher education or getting into an internship, or even if you are thinking now that college isn't for you then see if where you want to go is something that doesn't need a college degree in. Search for options!
